#32 4th Gen Cadillac Escalade – Luxurious and sophisticated

05:26

The Escalade was the first SUV designed and developed by Cadillac. Early versions drew plenty of criticism especially in terms of fuel efficiency. However, the Escalade quickly became a favourite choice among rappers, sports personalities and actors who in turn transformed Cadillac’s image from traditional and elderly to youthful and flamboyant.
4th Generation Cadillac Escalade
Much of the Cadillac Escalade's appeal is rooted in its over-the-top attitude. Generously proportioned inside and out, this sport-utility vehicle has a bold and angular face, exaggerated wreath-and-crest badging and chrome trim everywhere you look. Although quicker than many competitors, the Cadillac Escalade often falls behind in refinement, from its handling dynamics to its build and materials quality. This is set to change with the introduction of the fourth generation Cadillac Escalade.
Headlamp

Design
The fourth-generation Cadillac Escalade is an entirely new design yet instantly recognizable. The headlamps incorporate five crystal lenses and LEDs, which function in both low and high beam. Tall, thin vertical LED tail lamps reach to the top of the Escalade and feature the brand's logo, which illuminates in the dark. New inlaid doors fit into the side openings instead of over the top of the body.
Striking angular face
This in turn significantly reduces wind noise and contributes to improved aerodynamics, which help the luxury SUV to slip through the air with less wind drag. A lightweight aluminum bonnet and tail gate panels reduce the fourth generation Cadillac Escalade’s overall weight. Body panel gaps are tighter throughout. The new tailgate is designed to be sleeker in appearance integrates the rear window wiper into the spoiler. Enhancing the overall look of the luxury SUV are standard 20-inch or optional 22-inch wheels.
Profile enhanced with large wheels

Performance
Behind the fourth generation Cadillac Escalade’s angular face is an all-new more efficient and refined 6.2-litre V-8 heart. The power unit churns out 313 kW (420 hp) and 623 Nm of torque. The greater torque delivers an enhanced feeling of power on demand, particularly from a standstill and at low speeds.
6.2-litre V8 heart
Paired to the engine is a six-speed automatic transmission. The fourth generation Cadillac Escalade is available in 2WD or 4WD derivatives. The luxury SUV glides on the road via a more sophisticated chassis and suspension. A new electric variable assisted steering wheel improves handling.
Blingy even on the wheels
Braking performance is provided by new larger discs which deliver a more confident braking performance. Magnetic ride control ensures precise body motion during cornering and when driving off-road. This in turn ensures occupants enjoy a smoother and comfortable ride.

Interior
The fourth generation Cadillac Escalade’s striking exterior is reflected by the visibly appealing interior made up of premium materials. Real wood combined with premium cut-and-sewn materials are spread out all over the interior.
Luxurious cockpit featuring the CUE
The design of the instrument panel, control buttons and triple-sealed doors are engineered to reinforce a feeling of quality. The luxury feel of the interior is boosted by the distinct ambient lighting. On board the Escalade is the CUE (Cadillac User Experience). The CUE is an infotainment system that allows users to control various vehicle functions.
Seats layout
The system features an eight-inch screen, which uses touch technology and gesture recognition, enabling tapping and swiping common to smartphones and tablets. With the touch gestures one can scan through radio presents, play music from paired items and search through phone contacts.
12-inch digital instrument cluster
The instrument cluster features a standard, reconfigurable, high-resolution 12.3-inch display paired with Cadillac's CUE infotainment system. The instrument cluster is controlled by buttons located on the steering wheel. The seats were designed to be more comfortable and sculpted in appearance with a reclining second row.
Optional Blu-Ray DVD rear entertainment system
The design incorporates dual-firmness foam, which ensures long-trip comfort and helps retain appearance over time. The front seats feature standard heating and cooling. An optional Blu-Ray DVD rear entertainment system features a nine-inch, roof-mounted screen and two nine-inch screens behind the front seats’ headrests.
Long tail lamps, intergrated chrome spoiler adorn the rear

Verdict

The fourth generation Cadillac Escalade’s bold design, powerful engine and more luxurious interior sets it at par with key rivals. The Cadillac Escalade remains the right choice for anyone looking for a large unapologetically American SUV. Also available in the Cadillac Escalade range is the ESV edition. This is 14-inches longer offering more room to third row occupants and storage space.
