Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible

08:37

After surprising the world with the debut of the Continental GT Speed, Bentley has done it again with the debut of a new convertible. The new convertible is based on the powerful GT Speed Coupe.

Compared to its faster coupe, the new convertible lets occupants enjoy an open top experience with refined luxury that is visible on all Bentley’s. The good news is that four occupants can enjoy the thrilling performance of the powerful 6.0 litre 616hp W12 engine. The engine sprints the GTS Convertible from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. 0 to 160km/h takes 9.7 seconds while top speed is pegged at an impressive 325km/h.

Thrilling open top experience

This makes the Continental GT Speed Convertible the fastest four-seat convertible ever made. Its large 21-inch wheels are kept spinning on the road by an impressive 800Nm of torque. Traction is boosted by a permanent all-wheel drive system. Married to the engine is a ZF eight speed automatic transmission system. The engine has close ratios that allow for quick shifting and better acceleration.

Stylish side profile

The transmission also improves overall fuel consumption ensuring the luxury cruise speed machine can cover more miles. Compared to a normal Continental GT convertible the GTS seats lower (by 10mm) thanks to a new suspension setup. The aluminium double-wishbone front suspension and trapezoidal multi-link rear setup feature revised air suspension springs and dampers for improved agility and body control with little sacrifice in ride comfort. The steering provides exceptional feedback to the driver. An Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system is optimized to deliver both outstanding safety and greater driver involvement.

Prominent dark matrix-grill

Design wise the new GTS Convertible has similar features to its Coupe sibling. It comes with the dark-tinted matrix front grille and bumper air-intakes found in the coupe. Unique 21-inch Speed wheels adorn each side just like they do on the coupe. At the rear, 'figure eight' tailpipes, dark lower valance and red enamel 'B' boot lid help emphasize the car’s sportive character. The boot lid’s ‘double-horseshoe’ design helps to generate enough downforce to keep rear of the wheels on the ground.  Just like the Coupe the winged 'B' badge on the radiator shell has a background painted in black enamel.

Luscious interior

The interior is magnificent to look at just like its unique 21-inch wheels. Exclusive treadplates featuring 'Speed' logo welcome al occupants to its luxurious four seat interior. Various interior trims hand-crafted by Mulliner adorn each part of the interior. The dashboard features an exclusive Dark Tint Aluminium 'engine spin' finish that helps to complement various chrome trims on the exterior of the car.

Thrilling driving experience

The new infotainment system features latest software and graphics that allow the driver to view live traffic updates, satellite navigation and to also operate the digital radio. The system also comes with a 15GB hard drive for storage of music as well as iPod connectivity. It can also play music from the car’s own six-disc changer and an SD card.

Flat panel Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) speakers, which combine the functions of separate tweeter and midrange speakers in one unit, direct the sound with accuracy and provide greater clarity across the interior. A top of the range Naim system specifically made for Bentley can also be ordered. This incorporates custom-built speakers and eight individual Digital Sound Processing modes. The system can also adjust the audio balance setting automatically when the roof is up or down.

Classy rear design

The classy new Bentley will be launched next week at the at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, Detroit. More details to follow soon.
