Mercedes-Benz has revised all of the models in the E-Class series. They are now come with new safety systems that will be also fitted in the next generation Mercedes S-class that debuts next year. In addition, the new E-Class offers a considerably sharpened design with a cultivated, elegantly sporty look, as well as significantly enhanced comfort, high-quality appointments, efficiency and driving pleasure.

It now features a refreshed front design that consists of new single lens headlamps. Flowing light elements within the headlamps help to ensure that the "four-eyed" look which is typical of the E-Class has been graphically retained. The dipped beam as well as the day-time headlamps are fitted with partial LED lights as standard, while full LED headlamps are available for the first time in this class as an option.

For the first time ever the E-Class will be available with two different front-end designs. In the standard version, the basic variant and ELEGANCE equipment line are combined with the classic Saloon grille with 3-louvre look and star on the bonnet. The AVANTGARDE line, meanwhile, incorporates the sports car radiator with central star, and as such offers an independent front-end look with a sporty emphasis.

The bonnet and front bumper have also been completely redesigned too. With its flowing lines, the bonnet follows the new design idiom in a smooth, very straightforward manner. The restyled bumper boasts of a new shape and is free of all light functions. It also comes with a wing like front air splitter.

The side is dominated by a new feature line and a repositioned three-dimensional trim strip that give the Saloon and Estate models new, visually exciting proportions. At the rear, the lights and bumper have been revised. The new horizontally structured LED tail lights with new two-tone look emphasize the width and feature a characteristic night design.

Both the Saloon and the Estate will be fitted with a host of powerful and efficient petrol and diesel engines. All engines are fitted with ECO start/stop system to make them even more fuel efficient. New in the E-Class bonnet is a four-cylinder BlueDIRECT petrol engine. It needs only 5.8 litres of fuel to cover 100km. Another new engine is s six-cylinder engine that comes with two turbo chargers. This engine will be fitted in the E400 Saloon or Estate.

The V6 engine rewards the driver with impressive performance. Familiar V6 and V8 BlueDIRECT engines are also available for this new model. Diesel engine lovers have not been left out. There are various engines to choose from. The most economical version in the E-Class range is the new E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID. Its four-cylinder diesel engine which is married to an electric motor has a total output of 231hp and 750Nm of torque. The car consumes 4.1 litres/ 100 km.

This makes it one of the most economical luxury saloons in the world. Married to the engine is a choice of two transmission system. There is a 6-speed manual transmission with high ease of shifting and short shift travel, and the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT lever and DIRECT SELECT shift paddles. The automatic transmission comes with a short-term M (manual) mode.

This allows the driver to shift gears either up or down for a short while before switching back to automatic gear shifting. Traction and driving stability can also be improved in the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The system works perfectly especially on difficult road conditions. New owners will have four suspension choices to choose from.

The first one is called DIRECT CONTROL suspension is configured for comfort. This is fitted in the standard version and the ELEGANCE line. Second on the list is the sportily configured DIRECT CONTROL suspension with selective damping system. The suspension is fitted on the AVANTGRADE line.

With the suspension the car sits about 15mm lower than normal. Order the AMG sports package and one gets lowered sports suspension together with AMG exterior upgrade. Last on the list is the AIRMATIC air suspension with an electronically controlled damping system. The suspension system is fitted to all V8 models. All Estate versions get the air suspension plus a level control on the rear axle. The level control raises the rear suspension when the boot has a heavy load.

Being a Mercedes, the new E-Class comes with a host of safety systems that make driving more comfortable and safer. Mercedes has now combined PRE-SAFE technology and DISTRONIC PLUS to form "intelligent drive". The new safety system incorporates a host of new features that improve on the two previous safety systems. First on the list is the incorporation of Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera. Just like the Mono Multi-Purpose Camera fitted previously, it is positioned behind the windscreen in the vicinity of the rear-view mirror. However, this camera features two "eyes" set at an angle of 45 degrees and with an overall range of 500 metres that produce a three-dimensional view of the area up to around 50 metres in front of the vehicle. In this way, the stereo camera provides data for processing by various systems.

Intelligent algorithms perform an evaluation of this three-dimensional visual information in order to detect and carry out a classification, both spatially and in terms of their movement, of vehicles that are driving ahead, oncoming or crossing, as well as pedestrians and a variety of traffic signs within a large field of vision. Next on the list is an enhanced multistage radar sensor system. A key feature of the radar system is the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST helps reduce the risk of a rear-end collision. The radar system is in all E-Class models as standard equipment. Another safety feature fitted as standard is ATTENTION ASSIST. This warns an inattentive and drowsy driver. It can also inform the driver about his level of fatigue and the amount of driving time which has elapsed since the last break.

The interior has not been left out in the E-Class make over. High quality materials are used while sharp curves underscore the high-quality overall impression of the generous interior. A new feature is the two-part trim which stretches across the entire dashboard. It can be selected in a wood or aluminium look, irrespective of the equipment line. New to the E-Class is the 3-tube instrument cluster found in recently launched Mercedes models. A new analogue clock has been installed between the two central air vents.

The harmonious interior is characterized by the redesigned centre console without selector lever, as well as a new multifunction steering wheel with DIRECT SELECT lever and shift paddles in conjunction with automatic transmission. A series of high-quality appointments are also fitted as standard. Optional extras include HANDS-FREE ACCESS. This enables the boot lid to be opened and closed without actual physical contact by simply holding your foot beneath the bumper, and is therefore extremely convenient when loading and unloading the vehicle.

A modern range of infotainment systems helps to keep the driver up to date while on the road in terms of what is happening around the world or in the office. The systems also enable music to be enjoyed or also optionally offer powerful navigation solutions as well as an internet connection. Audio 20 CD Radio is fitted as standard. This comes with a twin tuner and mp3-capable CD player as well as a USB connection in the centre armrest.

A 6 inch TFT colour display is fitted as well. Bluetooth capable devices can also be connected, and SMS text messages displayed. A top of the range COMAND Online multimedia system is also available. It comes with a 7-inch high-resolution colour display, internet connection, hard-disc navigation and emergency call feature. It is combined with a six-disc DVD changer. A top of the range Bang & Olufsen audio system is also available for the new E-Class.

Prices for the new E-Class have not been announced as it will go on sale as from the 13 of April 2013.
