Porsche Macan Turbo Review

Porsche Macan Turbo Information

Those who prefer to blaze a trail of their own don't need to follow the lead of others. We're thinking specifically about cars known as compact SUVs, characterised by five doors, five seats, all-wheel drive – and, of course, a higher sitting position. But aren't they lacking a certain something?Something that adds a little life, lets us enjoy a more intimate relationship with the road and delivers intense driving pleasure. A concept that boasts plenty of space for hobbies, leisure and sport. But no room for compromise. Compact, concentrated and intense, but still powerful. Practical but never ordinary.

It is by these standards that we created the new Macan, and saw it emerge with three distinct guises. Each one a sports car. Each one unmistakable in its own segment. Each one a genuine Porsche – from design and driving dynamics to equipment specification. From the ultra sporty S variant to the Turbo – which sets new performance standards in its vehicle class.

All Macan models were developed, tested and built in keeping with the Porsche philosophy. That's where we take sporty style and performance from the racetrack and inject it into everyday driving. We make it as efficient as possible – and, of course, just as safe and comfortable. No efforts were spared until our engineers achieved their overriding development objective: the first sports car among compact SUVs.

The new Macan – built for an intensive life in which the thirst for experience and thrills and spills are ever-present, and in which new challenges are a permanent driving force. Built for a life that refuses to be hemmed in by conventions and feels all the more authentic for it. Direct and intimate.

A sports car that gives us what we're looking for, even in our everyday life: that feeling of being alive. The new Porsche Macan. Life, intensified.
A visual highlight of the new Macan is the side blades. Not only do they set a sporty accent, their design pays homage to the 918 Spyder. They make the proportions of the doors appear narrower and the flanks seem much sleeker and sportier. Side blades are available with a Lava Black paint finish, in the exterior color of the vehicle or – for a particularly exclusive statement – in carbon.

In sizes of up to 21 inches, the wheels of the Macan are equally eye-catching. The particular Macan model that you see before you is recognisable by its brake calipers: silver-colored on the S variant and red on the Turbo. Typically Porsche.

Porsche Macan S Review & Wallpaper

Porsche Macan S Review

Logo
At the press launch of the 2015 Porsche Macan, the automaker cited research showing how the luxury small-crossover segment has grown 185 percent since 2007, to some 1.3 millions units worldwide. Such entries as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Range Rover Evoque, Lexus RX, and Mercedes-Benz GLK have obviously resonated well with buyers. And the research projects that through 2024 the segment will grow another 3.4 percent annually.

Based on the Audi Q5, the two-row, five-seat Macan -- its name is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger -- starts at a "mere" $50,895, making it the second-least-expensive vehicle in the Porsche portfolio, at $300 dearer than a base 300-hp Cayenne. That price tag designates a Macan S, whose 340-hp, 339-lb-ft twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic, and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive are good for 0-60 mph in as little as 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 156 mph.

Step up to the 400-hp, 406-lb-ft twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 Macan Turbo, which improves the previous stats to a manufacturer-estimated 4.4 seconds and 164 mph, respectively, and you'll shell out $73,295. Still, even at those eye-opening prices, Porsche plans to sell at least 50,000 Macans per year, with the flexibility to increase capacity if demand calls for it. All Macans will be built alongside the Cayenne and Panamera at the Leipzig factory where Porsche recently invested 500 million euro and added 1500 jobs. With diesel and plug-in hybrid variants in the pipeline (the 258-hp, 428-lb-ft turbo 3.0-liter diesel is confirmed for calendar year 2015), Macan capacity will be going nowhere but up.

Porsche just introduced its second SUV at an event before the 2013 Los Angeles auto show and for the purists who already hate it, we've got one thing to say: get over it. With the Cayenne Porsche's best-seller, the 2015 Porsche Macan will help boost the automaker's bottom line so it can pay for more pet projects like the 918 Spyder. Though based on a Volkswagen platform, the Macan is full of Porsche DNA. The styling is pure Porsche, with plenty of 911 an 918 touches, as well as Cayenne traits. As expected, the Macan's interior feels both sporty, and luxurious.

The Macan really looks and feels sharp in the metal. We suspect if it drives as good as it looks Porshe will have no problem reaching its goal of 50,000 sales per year. Can't wait to see what pet project this crossover pays for. --Christian Seabaugh

At the heart of the new 2015 Macan are two new gas engines. The 2015 Porsche Macan S is powered by a version of the 2014 Panamera's 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 making 340 hp, while the 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo is powered by a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 (itself a stroked version of the Macan S mill) making 400 hp. Porsche hasn’t released torque figures for either engine.
